Gesture Control
Tortoise and the Hare
New Media Design III // Semester III // Case Study
Tasked with creating an application that is controllable through gestures using a Leap Motion, the fable I picked to design for was Aesop's The Tortoise and th Hare.
For the project itself I decided to go for a fully illustrated layout while using Pokémon characters for the respective animals. My reasoning behind this is that while the Leap Motion gesture control may be too advanced for younger children to use, they can still enjoy the fables due to being able to recognize characters from shows they may watch. In order to create the entire application Adobe softwares After Effects, Photoshop, and Illustrator were used to create the individual aspects such as informative videos (After Effects), text and background layouts (Photoshop), and character/background and animation illustrations (Illustrator). Brackets was then used to pull everything together, thus creating the gesture controlled app you can view in the video below.
While challenging both as a designer and a coder, making this project was such a good experience and I learned a lot in the process. It helped me in the sense that it taught me simplistic was better at times, and I was able to take that and apply it to some of my other projects and classes.
